o       American Business Changes

·        U.S. Companies like McDonald’s and Starbucks, whose main opportunities for growth are outside the United States, must factor in extra costs of security.  Especially when opening another outlet or business.

·        The terrorists targeted the World Trade Center because it was a symbol of American capitalism.

·        The price in security-related company’s stock rose 60% in the four weeks following September 11^th.  This proves that the demand for security is there.

o       American People Changes

·        More Americans are now afraid to fly after the attacks.

·        80% of American’s has displayed the American flag in their home during the last 6 months

·        The driver's license and state identity card are the basic identity documents used in America.

3.    POLITICAL POLICY

o       Airline Security

·        All of the Airline security has been stepped up after September 11^th.

·        Airlines are being so precautious that they even cut the nail file off a pair of fingernail clippers assuming it could be used as a weapon.

o       Homeland Security Office

·        The president has established the Office of Homeland Security that is headed by the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security—Governor Tom Ridge.

·        The United States homeland security office will coordinate efforts to protect the US and its structures from more terrorist attacks.  In doing this, the department will work with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as with private groups.

    ·        Mourners of September 11^th have also made a quilt to honor the victims.

                      ·    There are also suggestions for an underground memorial and an above-ground park.  They will be                                 connected by a circular pool with 3,000 pieces of blue stained glass.
